Information stored by My Whisky Cabinet

My Whisky Cabinet allows you to create and store information about your whisky collection. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:

• whisky names and distilleries;
• age, alcohol by volume (ABV), style, region and cask information;
• ratings and tasting notes;
• purchase and bottle information;
• photographs of bottles and labels;
• consumption history, including dates, dram sizes and optional notes;
• whether a whisky is owned, has been tasted, or has been emptied;
• repurchase preferences;
• distillery information and coordinates; and
• other information you choose to enter into a whisky record.

This information is used solely to provide the features of My Whisky Cabinet.

Where your data is stored

Your whisky cabinet information is stored on your device. If you use iCloud, My Whisky Cabinet also uses Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services to synchronise your cabinet between your devices. This information is stored in your private iCloud/CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account.

iCloud and CloudKit

My Whisky Cabinet uses Apple's private CloudKit database and iCloud key-value storage to provide synchronisation between your Apple devices. Information synchronised through iCloud may include your whisky records, tasting notes, ratings, consumption information, photographs and other information contained within your cabinet.

The storage and processing of this information by iCloud is also subject to Apple's privacy policies and the iCloud terms applicable to your Apple Account.

Photographs and Camera

My Whisky Cabinet can optionally access your camera and photo library. Camera access may be used to photograph whisky bottles and labels, scan labels and barcodes, and sample whisky colours. Photo Library access may be used to select photographs for whisky records or for colour sampling.

Photographs associated with whisky records may be stored as part of the app's data and may therefore synchronise through your private iCloud/CloudKit database. When you take a photograph using the app, My Whisky Cabinet may also save a copy to your Photos library. Photographs saved to your Photos library remain under your control and are not automatically removed if you subsequently delete the corresponding whisky record or delete your cabinet data.

Camera and Photo Library access is optional and is only requested when required for the relevant feature.

Label and Barcode Scanning

My Whisky Cabinet uses Apple's on-device technologies, including Vision and VisionKit, to provide label, text and barcode scanning functionality.

The App Store version of My Whisky Cabinet does not send scanned barcodes, label images or recognised label text to an external product-lookup service.

Distillery Search and Maps

My Whisky Cabinet uses Apple MapKit and Apple Maps to help find and display information about whisky distilleries. When you use these features, search terms, distillery names or coordinates may be sent to Apple as necessary to provide search and mapping results.

My Whisky Cabinet does not request or access your device's current location. Use of Apple Maps and MapKit is also subject to Apple's applicable privacy policies and terms.

Local Backups and Export

My Whisky Cabinet may create local backup files containing your cabinet information to help protect against accidental data loss. These backups may contain the same information as your cabinet, including photographs.

Older backup snapshots may temporarily contain information from whisky records that you have subsequently deleted until those backups are automatically removed as part of the app's backup-retention process.

You may also explicitly export your cabinet information. Exported files are created at your request, and you control where those files are subsequently saved or shared.

Deleting your data

Individual whisky records can be deleted within My Whisky Cabinet. The app also provides a Delete All Cabinet Data option, which can be used to remove your whisky cabinet records and locally managed backup information.

When Delete All Cabinet Data is used, My Whisky Cabinet deletes the whisky records stored by the app, removes its locally managed cabinet backups, clears associated shared cabinet information managed by the app, and submits deletion of synchronised records through the app's private iCloud/CloudKit storage.

iCloud synchronisation is managed by Apple, so changes to remotely synchronised data may not occur immediately on every device. Photographs that My Whisky Cabinet has saved separately to your Photos library are not deleted by this operation. Files you have previously exported are also outside the app's control and must be deleted separately from wherever you chose to save them.

Analytics, advertising and tracking

My Whisky Cabinet does not use third-party analytics services, does not contain advertising, and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Accounts

My Whisky Cabinet does not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address or other contact information. If you use iCloud synchronisation, this relies on the Apple Account configured on your device and does not create a separate My Whisky Cabinet account.

Developer access to your cabinet

My Whisky Cabinet does not send your whisky cabinet to a server operated by the app developer. The developer does not have access to your whisky records, tasting notes, photographs or consumption history through a developer-operated backend. Information synchronised using iCloud is stored using Apple's private iCloud/CloudKit services.

Third-party services

The App Store version of My Whisky Cabinet does not use third-party analytics, advertising, tracking or product-lookup services. The app uses Apple-provided services where necessary for features such as iCloud synchronisation, photo access, scanning, maps and system sharing.

Children

My Whisky Cabinet is an app concerned with recording and managing information about alcoholic beverages and is not intended for children.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the functionality of My Whisky Cabinet changes or if privacy or App Store requirements change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page identifies when the policy was most recently revised.
